On November 12, 2019, I went back to Princeton University to debate Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Bret Stephens. Our subject was “Nationalism, Conservatism, and the Future of the GOP.”
The event was hosted by the Princeton College Republicans and The Princeton Tory. It was an especially great pleasure to do an event with the Tory, the conservative campus magazine that I founded as an undergraduate at Princeton in 1984. That was thirty-five years ago—when Ronald Reagan was President of the United States and Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister of Britain!
The main funding for the magazine came from Irving Kristol’s Institute for Educational Affairs. Julie and I (we were married later) went to New York together to raise the crucial first donation which started it all.
A generation later, I feel like I’m making the same arguments.
